Mac App Store

Think of the Mac App Store as a framework of trust for users. If the mass of Mac users buy software with confidence, everybody wins.
@violasong I wrote a blog post positing the same question: http://jamiephelps.com /cc @manton
@manton I'm going all in on day 1 (I think). What are you doing?
@coreint how to move existing customers over to the app store version of ones app?
@coreint Q: Why doesn't Apple use the mechanisms for itunes rentals to allow for app trials?
@coreint Will devs still keep a separate online store for upgrades if Apple doesn’t allow for such discounts?
@manton shut down my store and do Mac App Store for distribution. Still not committed but leaning hard on it for variety of reasons.
@manton That article you instapapered last night has a question from me in it. :) /cc @coreint
@manton I'd like to do demos but I have no clue how to. That's part of why I'm not fully committed yet. Still have few months to ponder.
@manton @justin Demos is the elephant in the room for our decision as well. I don't think people will pay $85 for an app without trying it.
@coreint do you think simple apps on store will be good marketing for complex apps that can't be sold thru app store?
@coreint Do you plan to fork any app you put in the App Store, maintaining one branch with Sparkle etc., and one branch without?
@coreint How will you handle policies. I have trial and refund policies for Pear Note on my website that don’t match the App Store.
@coreint Thoughts on how to handle users who download the trial from your website then want to purchase from the App Store?
@coreint Being new to the platform I'm pretty darned excited about the store. How to you "old timers" see it, will you sell there?
@coreint Worries about app store: move all sales there or maintain my own distribution (with my passwords & update mechanism)?
@coreint How do I migrate existing customers? How do I charge for updates (can't currently)?
@coreint no trial versions? My sales come from scientists reluctant to purchase that can use the free version and see how it saves time.
@coreint What about refunds? I have full refund policy, again to reassure users that they won't be trapped with a useless app.
@coreint Last one: Files must be stored by default to Library. My app deals with scientific data files, and this isn't where users put them.
@coreint Despite all that, it could potentially save effort & increase visibility & sales. I want to put my app there.
@coreint would love to hear your thoughts on whether the Mac app store will be a de facto requirement for indie devs.
